Living In Generosity

Reaching the corners of the world with the Gospel that we can’t reach on a Sunday morning.

In a world that is focused on getting all that we can and increasing our wealth for personal gains. We know that Jesus is calling us to live a different way of life. Proverbs 11:24-25 says "One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed”.

Our generosity is expressed in our time as we seek to spend time together and make room for one another in our community. In a world of busyness, we want to slow down and engage with one another. We are generous with our spiritual gifts. They are not for showing off but for serving. We generously serve one another. Our life is not our own, and God has called us to be a people who are actively engaged in serving one another.

God is seeking people who will reflect His character and model His generosity.

Our generosity is expressed in our financial giving. Our vision is to live a compelling life as a Christian that propels people to follow Jesus completely. Jesus is the center of our lives, and He has not accidentally placed Verge in the Trappe/Collegeville community. We believe it is purposefully by His design. Our financial generosity supports the church's purpose to live our faith out in this community.

Legacy Giving (Missions Giving)

Generosity is very important in the life of a follower of Jesus. It not only reorders our personal world of priorities, but it is the secret of contentment. As a people, we give regularly to the church a set amount or percentage of our personal wealth. We also give to others outside the church working in different mission fields. Paul lived abroad and dealt with shipwrecks and imprisonment. Local churches supported him, and he had a special relationship with the church on Phillipi.

They supported him so much that he had to tell them to stop (Philippians 4:10-23). He was “generously supplied” by a church with very little material wealth. They exemplified people who lived generously, and their lifestyle challenges us today. We are blessed so much, and we want to support missionaries who cannot do what they do without the help of the local church.

We are actively engaged in the mission field regionally and globally. We know of missionaries who, like Paul, need support to minister to the lost. They need the church to help, and we want to respond to that call. As a church, we are faithful to our local work here in the Trappe/Collegeville community and give abroad to support ministry to people we may never meet.

They will be our legacy—a long-lasting impact in a place where we will never step foot. It's above and beyond our weekly giving.

Each year, we select a group of missionaries to support and choose projects to support worldwide.

Stocks

Usually, giving is tax deductible and that will reduce your tax burden but there are ways to increase your tax savings when you give to Verge Church with appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds. Also, you can give directly from your Traditional IRA without paying taxes on your distribution, even if it is a Required Minimum Distribution.

Some examples:

  1. You own a stock, bond, mutual fund or ETF in your Non IRA investment account. The asset has a capital gain, bought for $5000 now worth $10,000. If you sell the asset you will have to pay taxes on your gain. However, if you gift your asset to the Verge Church using the method below you won't pay capital gains and will still get a deduction for the FULL $10,000.
  2. Simply ask for help on the "how to."
  3. We can advise you on how to transfer the asset directly to Verge Church through our Charitable donation Verge Church brokerage account. After this is done you will receive a deduction on the $10,000 gift and be fully exempt from Capital Gains taxes!
  4. You have a Traditional IRA and you are required to take a Required Minimum Distribution. By using the Qualified Charitable Distribution method you will not have to claim the money on your tax return, therefore, not paying taxes on something that you normally would, year after year. Verge Church receives the full amount and you get to avoid the extra income on your taxes!

Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is like a charitable investment account for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about.

When you contribute cash, securities, or other assets to a donor-advised fund at a public charity you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth, and you can recommend grants to any eligible IRS-qualified public charity.

You want your charitable donations to be as effective as possible when you give. Donor-advised funds are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle in the United States because they are one of the easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to give to charity.
